The renewal of the priesthood and vocations implies the spiritual offering and prayer of all Christians. That is why the JMVS also welcomes in its midst the lay faithful who wish to live out their baptismal priesthood in the spirit of the Society. They commit themselves to praying for priests and to supporting them in their ministry. They are particularly concerned with priestly vocations together with the training of future priests. They take part in the life of the Society as associated members, according to the terms of the clauses pertaining to them.
Generally speaking, 2 recollections a year enable them to get fresh spiritual momentum regularly. Every year, they renew their act of self-offering for the Church, and especially for priests.
Responding to a special call of the Lord and because of the missionary needs, some of tem may be led to consecrate themselves to the Lord totally, in complete self-dedication, and to make themselves available for the service of the JMVS.
"The need for this urgent and many-sided apostolate is shown by the manifest action of the Holy Spirit moving laymen today to a deeper and deeper awareness of their responsibility and urging them on everywhere to the service of Christ and the Church." ( Vatican Council II, Apostolicam Actuositatem, n. 1)
