The Society of St John Mary Vianney proposes to its members various concrete means to live out the grace of their priesthood. With a mind towards a greater fruitfulness of their ministry, the SJMV priests avail themselves of a certain number of suitable requirements as sure aids to answer the call of the Lord day in, day out.
It is in this spirit that, wherever it is possible, the Society creates fraternities of community life to sustain the vitality of the mission. Belonging means welcoming the fellow-helper’s look on one’s life and ministry, so as to progress on the path to conversion.
Sessions are held several times a year, thus enabling the members to gather together for a time of brotherly mixing as well as "recharging of their batteries".
The Society is open to diocesan priests who feel a call to it. The commitment is possible from the ordination to the diaconate onwards for those who are incardinated in their own dioceses. The probationary period is of 2 years at least before a temporary commitment can be pronounced, and that may be renewed before the final commitment. The time spent at the Seminary can provide a first opportunity to become acquainted with the Society.
Since 29th June 2008, the SJMV has been able to incardinate some of ils members, as well as give dimissorial letters for Holy Orders.
